My list was unchanged:
Colonel Vessery - Outmanoeuvre, Heavy Laser Cannon, Engine Upgrade
Rexler Brath - Predator, Heavy Laser Cannon, Engine Upgrade
Bryan packed the following:
Boba & Friends
Boba Fett - Veteran Instincts, Engine Upgrade, Navigator, Autoblaster
2 x Syndicate Thugs - Ion Turret, Unhinged Astromech
I've always struggled with Ion against the Defenders, once they get stuck with that it's pretty easy I think to ensure they're consistently taking damage each turn. When they're strapped to a Y-wing it makes it tougher to take them out because they're so resilient. Then of course the fact remained I'd be facing two of them whilst Boba Fett was sneaking around throwing out all sorts of damage.
I decided to use last games approach and apply it again, starting in a corner and Boba Fett was right across from me. There was a cloud of debris and asteroids in the centre of the table and the pair of Y-wings stuck together on the side opposite to Boba.
The Y-wing pottered forward whilst the Defenders zoomed towards the centre before Rexlar turned into the centre and the Colonel attempted to get into a flanking position. Boba screamed down the flank to ensure he was present to put some hurt onto the TIE Defenders when the time came. The initial exchanges saw Rexlar cop an Ion token two turns in a row before promptly reaching for the duct tape as he was flying about on a single hit point. I probably dropped a single shield or two in return to a Thug. Brath then peels off whilst the Colonel positions to gain a flank against Boba Fett who crashes through the debris field gaining a stress token for his troubles.
With target locks a plenty scattered across the TIE Defenders I was intent to try and take out at least a single ship before getting smashed apart. Brath continues to try and put as much range in between him and Boba Fett whilst the Colonel gets some shots off on Boba however after a single volley I'm only left with a single TIE Defender. After pursuing Fett with Colonel and taking more damage than I was giving it was looking like a very one sided game. The Y-wings by this stage were gearing up for another attack run to finish off the remaining TIE. Somewhere along the line I managed to down a Y-wing before copping an Ion token in return and this would allow Boba to cruise in for the killing blow. Unfortunately the Ion token on the Colonel thwarted the plan as Boba eventually collided with the ship saving my bacon from the inevitable for a turn at least and helped himself to another Ion token courtesy of the Y-wing.
So you do what any other crippled TIE ship does and head for the other side of the galaxy! The Navigator upgrade on Boba Fett was incredible late game allowing Bryan to change his plan as he went along in reaction to the Colonel's late game moves. A valuable tool indeed.
I headed for the edge in an effort to head about and make one final attack run with Colonel Vessery limping around with 2 hull points left.
I zoomed about however the Y-wing pounded me with Ion shots and I slammed into the debris field and gained stress tokens. Boba got into a firing position with his rear firing arc and obliterated the Colonel.
I had no doubts before the game had even begun I was going to get white washed however I was keen to come away from the game with a few lessons and whilst I have those the more interesting conversation came after the came as I explained my passion of TIE Defenders to Bryan who then happily spent 20 minutes going through some different upgrade combinations that I could possibly explore, deployment strategies and finally some flying patterns in order to avoid traps and set some of my own. I also entertained the idea about dropping Colonel Vessery and introducing another pair of Delta Squadron Pilots (PS1) to the squadron and this conversation once again lasted a good length.
It was a good game against an even better opponent and next time I lock horns with Bryan I hope I can put up some sort of challenge to him.
Once again, looking for any feedback, please let me know what you think of the slideshow type of reports.
