Gold Squadron Pilot - Twin Laser Turret, BTL-A4, R3-A2
Keyan Farlander - Fire Control System, B-wing/E2, Tactician, Outmaneuvre
Ibtisam - Fire Control System, B-wing/E2, Tactician, Push the Limit
I liked Craig's squadron and apart from the obvious synergies using stress to his B-wing pilots advantage if left unchecked it would certainly be able to strip away my ships in a hurry if I was caught hanging around range 1.
I was running the following:
Boba Fett - Veteran Instincts, Engine Upgrade, Slave I, Extra Munitions, Tactician, Proton Bombs, Homing Missiles, Ion Cannon
Darth Vader - Veteran Instincts, Engine Upgrade, TIE/x1, Advanced Targeting Computer, Proton Rockets
Deployment - This is becoming a pretty standard affair for me and perhaps I'm approaching it wrong but with this list I always seem to want to come in from a flanking position so this was no different. I reacted to the opposite side that Craig placed his ships down on. I didn't particularly want the TLT eating up my ships quick smart so my intention was to create as much distance between it as possible and deal with whatever ship wandered into range first.
In combat I throw 3 dice and roll a blank, blank, focus and I'm fiercely reminded of my last game. I do get to bestow a stress token onto the B-wing however for just being in range 2.
Keyan eats 3 shields from Boba whilst the Y-wing manages only a single shield from Vader which could have been far worse had Craig not absorbed some of my red dice anti luck matter.
The proton bomb isn't anything exciting to remember and combat is simply summarised with Boba doing a single damage to the Y-wing.
In combat I think I manage another sequel to 'Why red dice why?' and at range 1 with a target lock which I'm forced to use I end up eating Ibtisam's last shield with Vader. Not really the legendary stuff I've watched in the movies to be honest. Boba launches his homing missiles at the Y-wing removing the turret platform from the game which took a lot longer than expected. Keyan in response targets Vader and I lose a shield and critical sneaks through giving me a stress token along with tactician giving me another and we all know how how Vader doesn't like stress.
I want to say that Vader rolled 3 dice in combat at range 1 of Ibtisam and did horrendous damage but clearly there are no tokens left on the table to indicate this so I think it went something along the lines of blank, blank, hit and Craig then promptly rolled an evade. I was fast wondering if there was a way to win this game without rolling red dice, that's a list I could really get behind!
Boba chews 3 shields off Keyan in a display of firepower I wouldn't get use to. In response Craig shows he can dance just as well rolling a hit, hit, critical and naturally I roll 2 dice that mean nothing. It pings a shield, a hit and the critical is a direct hit netting Craig half points for Boba Fett.
Craig shoots back onto Boba who avoids damage but gains a target lock and turn 9 rolls around.
Thanks to Craig for such a grinding thinking man's battle that turned out to be a real challenge for me and as usual with his light hearted banter and our combined terrible dice rolls and lots of head shaking moments I'm looking forward to the next game we have.
Some more thoughts on this list and I always come back to Boba's crew slot and how to make it more of an impact in the game. I've tried Ysanne Isard with not much luck because I often find when Boba's hull starts to vanish it vanishes very quickly over the course of a turn or two. Agent Kallus I feel is too situational and would work great with perhaps Lone Wolf but for the time being I'm sticking to Veteran Instincts. Tactician whilst is great once again I feel it's a little too situational and for an extra point I'm nearly getting the same value if not more from Rebel Captive on board. I keep thinking about Gunner as this could mitigate some of my crap dice rolls at least.
Thanks for reading!
