One of the huge draw cards for X-wing for me is the simplicity of the rules. It allows for just about anyone to play and my 8 year old son has a firm grasp of the rules. Adding upgrades and named pilots to the mix certainly adds some dynamic elements to the game without disrupting the core rules which is something I love. Second point relevant to that fact is I don't need to be lugging around a 200+ page book with rules in it everywhere I go.
Saying I didn't get my X-wing fix for the entire weekend though is a wee bit of a lie however. My gorgeous wife peaked my interest on Saturday saying she'd like to learn a bit more about the game. Fast forward to Sunday night and her single X-wing had cleaned up my pair of TIE fighters in an introduction battle. After obligatory jokes about her in Princess Leia metal bikinis, a quick recap of the game and she certainly seemed to have grasped the rules.
I guess it's every gamers dream to have their kids play their favourite game and the very pinnacle of that dream is if their other half plays that very same game (and then of course the need to never leave the house for a gaming purpose again!!). Needless to say I'm excited at the moment as she's keen for another game at some stage so perhaps eventually battle reports could very well consist of my wife's 'Double D's' list. I wonder how much traffic would peak to this little old blog then??
