Wave 10 and the additions recently announced by Fantasy Flight Games has certainly got the community engaged and as usual it reveals why it is such a great time to be involved in this wonderful game.
Being far more tangled up with the Imperial designs and tactics naturally I look towards the range of ships coming to the Empire with a lot of anticipation.
Upsilon Class Shuttle
Although Kylo Ren's new game mechanic looks new and different, I'm honestly not in the least excited about it or interested in it right now. I think perhaps it's something that only complicates the game and will only create confusion but granted its early days and perhaps when it is closer to release more information will present itself on the matter.
In conclusion though, yes I'm happy to be adding one of these to the Imperial ranks and I think it will look great being escorted by two TIE Defenders.
The 'Adaptive Ailerons' card really creates some unique opportunities for this ship to exploit and with practice the segnor's loop available to it as will allow for some truly capable pilots to get the beat on the enemy each and every time. The 4 hull only is concerning because it is running 2 green dice only so the action of choice maybe an evade action up until the first pass of the dogfight. Of course there are some upgrade cards that haven't been spoiled yet and one is 'TIE only' so immediately I'm thinking and hoping it will do something magical for TIE Defenders (yes again...).
It is interesting to note that the TIE Striker has 3 red dice so you could run 4-5 of them I would imagine as a gimmick squad. I'm sure like me every fan is hanging out to see the dial and get a feel for what they're capable of but if previous TIE models are anything to go off then I think we'll see all our usual high speed manoeuvres available and the dial resembling something similar to a TIE/FO.
Out of all the incoming ships this is the one that least excites me from an Imperial dictatorship point of view and I think it is all because of the points cost. Yes I can understand that this ship will have a good chance of engaging the enemy due to it's rear arc but Quickdraw is 29 points naked so let's say you spend 3 points and get some elite pilot talent and a tech slot. Why not spend the extra points and just upgrade to a naked Decimator or the new Shuttle?
I can't help but feel this ship fills such a specialised role that other ships can cover the role just as good whilst performing other valuable duties in the squad. Of course this is all guess work because nobody will have a good grasp on it until the ships are out and into circulation for a while.
So what are you most excited about with the incoming Imperial ships? Have you got completely new squads in mind or rather will you be dropping some ships you currently use to make way for a new wingman in the shape of one of the above mentioned ships?
Thanks for reading.
