Ten Numb - Mangler Cannon
Keyan Farlander - Heavy Laser Cannon
Blue Squadron Pilot - Heavy Laser Cannon
I stuck with my last build:
Boba Fett - Veteran Instincts, Engine Upgrade, Slave I, Extra Munitions, Ysanne Isard, Proton Bombs, Homing Missiles
Darth Vader - Veteran Instincts, Engine Upgrade, TIE/x1, Advanced Targeting Computer, Proton Rockets
Deployment was as follows:
3 B-wings tucked into the corner whilst Vader was going to scream up the flank again and cut in for some damage whilst Boba was going to slowly but surely peel around the rock blasting away and hopefully dropping bombs galore to disrupt my sons plans.
In combat Vader chips 2 shields off Ten whilst Boba launches off a homing missile (and spending target lock) at Blue Squadron eating away 4 shields. Ten responds knocking off 2 shields from Vader and Blue's heavy laser cannon leaves Boba Fett on a single shield.
Vader manages a single hit on Keyan and Boba's last missile chips away another 3 shields. Ten strips Boba's final shield and Vader takes 2 damage from Keyan.
The bomb goes off causing a console fire for Blue Squadron Pilot.
In combat Boba destroys Keyan (marker for final position) keeping Vader safe for another round at least however between Ten and Blue squadron they chip in 3 damage onto the Firespray.
The proton bomb goes off catching both of the B-wings causing a major hull breach onto Blue Squadron Pilot and a Major Explosion (which does nothing) onto Ten.
In combat Vader shoots however the dice betray me and I roll a blank and a hit adding a critical however Blue evades one and I eat a shield. Boba's luck isn't much better but I manage to rid Ten of his remaining shields. The B-wings in reply destroy both of my ships with Ten landing 2 critical hits and a direct hit being in there naturally.
The B-wings were left only on a few hull points each but it simply doesn't matter because I was defeated. So where do I believe I went wrong? Firstly I broke my golden rule of focusing on a single ship first then changing targets. Blue Squadron Pilot came back to haunt me in a big way after Boba launched his Homing Missiles at him in the opening joust and those 4 red dice from a heavy laser cannon are enough of a reminder to let me know not to do it again.
In turn 3 I had the opportunity to 2 bank towards Blue Squadron which would have allowed me to put another volley of shots into him at range 1 which may have been enough to destroy him now granted had I failed I would have taken damage as well however I don't believe Blue had anywhere to go without being collected by a Proton Bomb the following round. This would have given Boba the opportunity then to turn towards the centre and start harassing the remaining B-wings whilst taking little return fire.
Oh Vader how I disrespect thee. I really flew him like a gumby this game and should have really played him differently. Turn 3 my son just perfectly moved and barrel rolled to a blocking position and I was caught hard. I've honestly been searching for another pilot to replace Vader with as I'd love to get a TIE Defender instead however with the points I've got to play with it's just not happening. Now without going off the subject of my poor pilot skills because I've used Vader in the past with a great deal of success I just simply didn't play him to his strengths. Perhaps I was too keen to get him into the action and start racking up those critical hits where I should have continued to fly him up towards my opponents table edge taking an extra turn or 2 to allow him into the perfect firing position.
Lots to think about but it was a great game and good for my sons confidence for him to get a victory. I sincerely hope he sticks to this list for a bit and uses it again for the best out of 3 game.
For me I am thinking about dropping Ysanne Isard and switching out to something else as in the last few games she has given me 2 evade tokens so I'm either finding the enemy does so much damage onto Boba in a single turn I'm left with only a turn or two to survive or he's managed to dodge everything for the most part as they focus on Vader. So thinking about a crew upgrade slot there are a few options that jump out at me:
Firstly Rebel Captive is always worthwhile and in this instance however I'm not sure stress tokens on the B-wings would have drastically changed the outcome of the game. Agent Kallus and Gunner however directly effect his offensive capability which is something I like to think Boba lacks but it's not to bad to be honest however if I do have either of these crew options it allows me to use something other than a target lock if I know I'm not going to use the homing missile. The downfall with Agent Kallus of course however is his skill only works against one ship, so in this case it would have only helped me out against 33% of the B-wings.
Lots to think about and I hope this generates some comments. Thanks for reading!
