Rather I betrayed the idea and polluted it with a Scum squad and although it has won a lot of games something about those victories leaves me feeling somewhat hollow.
I'm going to pledge my next 5 games of X-wing (and hopefully aim for 10+) to really get back to the basics and run either all TIE Defenders or at least have one in each squad going forth using all the different titles, pilots and upgrades available as I see fit. This will allow me a great understanding of my favourite Imperial ship but also allow me to get back to the small ships as I've been using large ones of a lot of my recent games and I think they're a lot more forgiving when it comes to movement.
My first list is going to focus on the offensive side of things and although it's certainly nothing incredibly powerful, it is not my intention. Win, lose or draw I only plan to gain an intimate understanding of the TIE Defender now that Imperial Veterans is out. Undoubtedly my opponents will all love the challenge whether they're facing TIE/D's or TIE/x7's as each configuration brings different aspects to the table and my reward is simply knowledge.
I've noticed a lot of recent posts on the FFG forums celebrating various squad builds and tournament successes with the TIE Defenders and after each one I'm simply left scratching my head thinking “Why aren't I doing that?” After all the TIE Defender was one of the very first ships I purchased and since that moment I've had a love affair with it regardless of its capability in game.
Thanks for reading and later in the week I'll be sure to post up part 1 of my journey.
