Rather than polish the existing ruleset, it seems that Games Workshop is re-inventing the wheel that is the core mechanics, but keeping the tyre which is the solid lore and background everyone is drawn to.
Even though I haven't played a game of 40k in over a decade, and the only miniatures I have are from Space Hulk, I, like many others I am sure, am keen to see what the final product will be. I am certainly excited to have an opportunity with Todd (@raesburntodd) to play a small skirmish to see if there is anything in the system for me.
People are comparing it to Age of Sigmar, which is ok by me but I would be a little disappointed if it is just AoS with more armour and longer-ranged weapons. How will the game separate itself from the other core product outside of the miniatures it uses?
Like many other gamers coming from different generations, I think Games Workshop's business model might finally be aligning with where it should have been a decade ago.
If you are paying attention and following the updates, then undoubtedly you're excited about some of the rule changes, and perhaps less excited about others. What are your thoughts so far on the previews and what excites you the most?
No doubt as the release date draws closer, I'll post more regular updates, but I also plan on posting a review of the game and a battle report at a minimum.
