Interestingly enough the first thing I noticed was the negative points cost effectively allowed me to increase my TIE Defenders from Delta Squadron Pilots (PS1) to Onyx Squadron Pilots (PS3) now I personally don't think that 2 points is probably worth it at the lower end of the pilot skill spectrum however I'm sure there would be several games where it would make a difference.
With the loss of missiles and cannon upgrades it somewhat limits the TIE Defender but I certainly don't think this is a bad thing as the new titles allow a greater degree of customisation and with that comes added flexibility.
A quick summary of the game is as follows:
2 TIE Defenders begin to joust against Wedge, Corran Horn and Miranda in her trusty K-wing. One of the TIE's takes fire from Wedge and Corran performing his double tap and undoubtedly luck ran into it but thanks for the evade token and then a focus action the TIE was able to emerge unscathed from the exchange. This would happen a few times over the course of the game and I quickly realised that the focus + evade action really goes a long way to helping the TIE Defender survive and also I shouldn't leave so long in between games because embarrassingly I lost one of my TIE Defenders to an asteroid collision.
I ganged up on Wedge, he ate a mine sealing his fate and then the attention was put onto Corran Horn who was traded for Death Rain before my final TIE Defender tailed Miranda gunning her down. Certainly nothing ground breaking here however I feel that FFG have really done an amazing thing in this upcoming expansion and as alluded to yesterday I'm one happy camping hanging out for this release.
