- Removed Flight Controllers
- Added Gunnery Teams
- Added Relentless Title
- Removed Darth Vader & Zertik Strom
- Added 2 x TIE Defenders
A lot of changes after merely 2 games however, I simply found I hadn't picked the best combination of squadrons in order to take full advantage of Admiral Sloane's ability. Secondly, wanting to keep enemy ships in my frontal arcs as long as possible meant Gunnery Teams would be of massive aid to a fleet like mine that would always be out-activated ensuring any opportunity targets would be hurt.
Todd was running the following:
Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer - Admiral Konstantine, Veteran Gunners, Quad Battery Turrets
2 x Victory II-Class Star Destroyer - Veteran Gunners, Quad Battery Turrets, Disposable Capacitors
Raider I-Class - External Racks, Ordnance Experts
I picked Todd's Fire Lanes objective, and we got started.
Todd placed the objective tokens near obstacles, and I moved them onto the obstacles which would allow my squadrons to land on them rather than worrying about my ships taking damage. I hugged the flank at an angle, and over the course of the game would turn into face the enemy.
Todd - 1 VP
James - 0 VP
VSD-6 activates dropping its speed to 1 and unloads into my ISD-10 in front of it. I spend a brace and re-direct and end up taking 4 shield damage. Major Rhymer moves to support the TIE Defenders and Maarek Stele who do not disappoint. Using Sloane's ability I discard Todd's brace token and take out 3 shields. We both gain a victory point and get ready for turn 3.
Todd - 2 VP
James - 1 VP
Todd's ISD activated with a focus fire command. He picked up his loads of dice and his accuracy results ensured I couldn't spend my brace or re-direct so I had to spend the contain and other re-direct to 'minimise' the 5 shields and 3 damage that snuck through. Much to my frustration, I'd double arced myself, and Todd's broadside shots scored a 'Power Failure' critical effect.
ISD-9 activated with a squadron command and Morna Kee alongside Major Rhymer take out 3 shields on the enemy ISD. VSD-15 revealed a focus fire command and pulls out a massive 6 damage (1 shield + 5 damage) and I discard my contain and re-direct. Todd's VSD then collides into the rear of his Raider for a damage card each. His Raider then activates using a navigate command to drop to speed 3 settling near another objective token. I end the turn by discarding the critical effect card on the ISD on the station.
Todd - 4 VP
James - 2 VP
ISD-9 activates with a squadron command, and I throw everything at the ISD. The damage is accountable for 2 shields, 2 damage cards and spent brace and re-direct tokens. I repair a shield with the repair token from the first turn before colliding with the ISD for a face down damage card each.
Todd's VSD activates with a repair command discarding a damage card, as well as regrowing a shield using the token from the first turn. He inflicts 2 damage onto my ISD (spending a brace and re-direct) before moving away. The Raider activates with a navigate command dropping its speed to 2 in order to hang around the objective token.
Morna Kee and Major Rhymer manage a hearty 3 damage into the ISD whilst Todd gains a single victory point as I snatch 2.
Todd - 5 VP
James - 4 VP
Todd's VSD activates with a well timed repair command removing a damage card. His attack takes out 4 shields to my ISD. His Raider does something that doesn't impact the game and Morna Kee manages a cheeky 3 damage onto the VSD forcing Todd to discard his brace.
We both pick up another victory point, leaving the standing at:
Todd - 6 VP
James - 5 VP
This leaves the total of victory points as follows:
Todd - 7 VP
James - 6 VP
Even though I didn't win the war in terms of victory points, I was far ahead on what I'd destroyed, clawing back a win.
The squadrons did some amazing work in this game, even though I lost Admiral Sloane in turn 4, the squadrons immediately worked way better with her just with the simple changes. I'm intrigued however to see how it will fair against a fleet with squadrons to fight against.
Ironically enough, Todd did just that in our next battle and would include some squadrons.
