Todd added 6 TIE Fighters to his fleet by dropping the Raider-I, so this was the very first time I'd flown my fleet against anything with squadrons so that was going to be interesting. I picked Intel Sweep and went to work.
Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer - Admiral Konstantine, Veteran Gunners, Quad Battery Turrets
2 x Victory II-Class Star Destroyer - Veteran Gunners, Quad Battery Turrets, Disposable Capacitors
TIE Fighter Squadron x 6
Todd's ISD activates with a navigate command increasing its speed to 3. I take 2 flak damage onto a TIE Defender, Mauler Mithel is destroyed and both Maarek Stele and Morna Kee take a single point of damage. The ISD then hits a rock and takes the 'Depowered Armament' critical effect. The remaining VSD-6 takes a squadron token as Todd was hoping he'd have more squadrons to use.
My second ISD-10 activates with squadron command. Major Rhymer drops 2 shields from the VSD-15 whilst Colonel Jendon then allows Maarek Stele to attack a second time sneaking through a face-up damage card (point defence failure) and forcing the brace token to be discarded.
In response, VSD-15 activates with a focus fire command. After all the dice have stopped rolling I've spent my re-direct, and taken 5 shield damage. Finally, VSD-6 activates picking up an objective token, and with a focus fire token it gets a single damage through onto a TIE Defender ending the round.
Todd's ISD reveals a squadron command but turns his attention to Maarek Stele who takes a single damage.
ISD-10 activates with a squadron command allowing another Colonel Jendon double-tap with Maarek Stele killing off Todd's re-direct token. Todd gains a face-up damage card (Damaged Munitions). Morna Kee sneaks in 2 damage onto VSD-15. VSD-15 activates with a useless squadron command but it doesn't stop Todd from eating 3 shields and placing a single face down damage card onto ISD-9 forcing me to spend a re-direct token.
I crash into myself for some damage cards as well, but at this stage I wasn't going to be able to do enough damage to the remaining VSD, or catch it with the ISD's.
Todd made a smart play and split his VSD's preventing me from destroying both of them but I think I did an incorrect activation in one turn causing my series of crashes.
It's no secret, but Maarek Stele and Colonel Jendon is amazing. The combination is dirty, filthy and very Empire like and I think its a worth while investment over Gunnery Teams, and after all this fleet is designed around squadrons and they do the heavy lifting. This game is a perfect example of this seeing as the shots from the ISD didn't really account for much.
Admiral Sloane's ability was great at discarding the brace quickly, and flipping some re-directs. It is just nice to have an option when you roll an accuracy result.
As per usual, I'm looking forward to more games but due to work commitments I won't have a chance to have any more for a number of weeks.
