Deathrain - Extra Munitions, Proton Bombs x 2, Advanced Sensors
I added in 2 Academy Pilots, Mauler Mithel and Howlrunner for backup to make everyone around a bit more economical but when my brother faced off with his Brobots list I didn't think I really stood a chance. First and foremost I really sucked terribly at re-programming my brain to make the switch from using proximity mines (dropping them wherever I like after I move) as opposed to proton bombs (dropping them before I move) so that's something I just really need to practice with. I even went as far as to accidentally turn into a bomb and it ended up destroying Deathrain as it was naturally a direct hit.
Deathrain - Extra Munitions, Proton Bombs x 2, Advanced Sensors, Advanced Homing Missiles x 2, TIE MKII Engine
So the game came and the game went. I was facing off against Corran Horn, Poe Dameron and Horton Salm so hardly an easy practice game to get my head around the list, no my son likes to throw his old man into the deep end with a foot on the head but I'd much prefer it to be that way.
The Academy Pilots accounted for absolutely nothing, they got put away pretty quickly with combined fire and a Twin Laser Turret backing them up and I certainly think an error was made with Deathrain hanging back a bit, I'm starting to think perhaps in this role with Proton Bombs he should really be starting his attack run right behind the initial wave hoping enemy ships will fly within range 1 of the bomb.
Deathrain however did manage to do some damage and when the he finally was destroyed it was only Poe Dameron left on the field of battle nursing some wounds. The Proton bombs put 3 critical hits onto the Y-wing with one of them being a direct hit, Deathrain was able to target lock then K-turn thanks to advance sensors and launch an advanced homing missile to seal the deal. Corran Horn nastily for him got into range 1 twice of Proton Bombs removing him from the equation however their fearless leader Poe Dameron got his claws into Deathrain who by that stage was out of bombs. Dameron however had taken 1 or 2 critical hits so it was a fairly close game but I'm suddenly not so focused on the problems Deathrain is giving me but more so of the other 60 points I'm really not playing effectively with and I do have an idea for this but wish to test it before posting.
Secondly there is the problem of the range 2 Advanced Homing Missiles. As much as I love them because you don't have to spend the target lock and they compliment the proton bombs so well I feel perhaps that a more rounded game plan would be to stick some ion pulse missiles as well to open up some options and dictate where the enemy is going to go and hopefully fly right into a tasty proton treat.
Stay tuned and thanks for reading.
