Often when they see me play Age of Sigmar they really like the concept of skirmish-based combat, so when they found out Imperial Assault existed they demanded I give them a game. No complaints there!
Fellow podcaster Scott (@scottomcgotto) has a horrible habit of plunging me deep into a gaming system and then vanishing from the scene, so seeing as I've painted his models for him it's probably only right that I have a few games with them.
Of the two game variants in Imperial Assault, so far I've only tried out the campaign mode; although the skirmish mode really intrigues me and being in Australia I know Imperial Assault hasn't taken off as quickly as X-wing. The community surrounding this game is still relatively fresh.
Ironically enough, today I was reading a blog about the Australian Nationals Winner and needless to say, it has certainly piqued my interest - previously, though, I'd been trying to dodge the bullet.
Regardless of how I feel about the system, my kids are thoroughly enjoying X-wing and it highlights the teamwork which was displayed in our recent missions from Heroes of the Aturi Cluster. This is heartwarming for a parent to see.
Although I'm very hesitant to crack open my shrink-wrapped copy of Imperial Assault and splash some colour onto the models, the devil inside of me is just waiting to burst free and get neck deep into another system, just like I did when I fell into X-wing.
For the time being I'll check out videos on YouTube to gain as much insight into the skirmish mode as I can, and no doubt finish off a few more campaign missions with the young ones.
What is your favourite gaming mode for Imperial Assault?
Thanks for reading.
