How many times have you played X-wing and you've spent a good amount of time planning methodically to come up with a list that is not only competitive and fun but also uses ships you really get a kick out of playing?
Often for me my creative lists inevitably suck and after a string of losses I'm already changing lists and trying something else or worse yet copying something I've found on the internet.
Last night I stumbled across this tournament report where the writer went into detail about the ideas he had before hand and the night before last minute changed he made (which were pretty significant I might add) that led to an incredible win with a very interesting list.
When I come acoss gems like this that resemble little to no significance to the current plethora of 'net' lists I'm filled with hope an inspiration. Hope in the fact that if I keep playtesting lists I just love the loo of then perhaps one day I'll share some success as documented in this tournament. Undoubtedly it's not just about mastering the game of X-wing but also the chosen squad. Inspiration in the form that with more waves and future expansions that are released it would seem lists like that that often defy the normal rules of X-wing squads and the meta are able to pull ahead and catch everyone off guard.
I read a report like that and I'm immediately want to re-visit old lists I've made that failed and try again. Perhaps I wasn't ready to use the list correctly, perhaps the lists design and my playstyle didn't align or the match up was far from optimal.
Perseverance in this game could often be confused with insanity, repeatedly trying the same list and mostly gaining the same result. Variables however include dice, opponents and of course what you're facing.
This is a post to all the struggling X-wing players (myself included) to call upon you to drag out any uncommon lists you love, even ones that don't perhaps do so well and share it because I guarantee you even if you think it's a poor list it will inspire someone out there and that inspiration could lead to them making the slightest alteration to their list which in turn could be the final piece of the puzzle they've been searching for to round out their squadron.
