This game of cat and mouse would continue for the best part of 60 minutes. I'd get into solid positions and do all the right things, however the dice were cold for me and blistering for Jermaine. He took out a TIE Advanced pretty quickly with concentrated fire and I was able to ionise Countess Ryad but simply couldn't bring enough guns to bear on the stranded target allowing her to get away.
Redline got out of position to re-load a few times which was handy but unfortunately after firing 4-5 proton torpedoes I still didn't have a single kill to show for my hard work.
Time was called and I limped away feeling gutted and uninspired by not only what I had created but the sheer frustration of the dice. It is a dice game after all and these things will happen. Looking at the positives however and my positioning for the most part wasn't too bad. I couldn't seem to be able to get 4 of my guns shooting all at the same time which is something I've got to work on but for the most part that element of the game wasn't too bad.
Having some mines/bombs would have been handy in a few instances when the TIE Defenders inevitably got behind me but it is simply points I don't have.
In 2017 I wrote an article address two-ship builds in X-Wing for first edition. It highlighted some of the key elements required to make them work and I was semi successful with them. Admittedly being a simpleton and having less things to think about is a major selling point for me as well. Going forward, I'm going to dust off the Firespray, try that with a few different partners but also I'm eager to try the Outrider and VCX-100.
Thanks for reading.
