In a previous article I explored some options that will hopefully turn the TIE Defender into another fearsome ship in the Imperial arsenal and rightly so with access to the new titles.
The new 'reloaded' version of my triple D (DDD) list firstly takes advantage of the TIE/x7 title allowing it an evade token with most of it's manoeuvres.
At -2 squad points this takes the 'Onyx Squadron Pilot' to 30 points allowing 3 of them to be fielded. With the leftover points we can invest in a stealth device for each turning them into very elusive and slippery ships and this leaves the squad at 99 points.
At range 3 engagements the squadron is at its strongest which will be the opening turn/s. The TIE Defender outfitted this way will be defending with 5 green dice and will more than likely be loaded with both a focus and an evade token. This build really puts the defend in defender it would seem.
In terms of deployment I would think this squadrons strength comes from its combined fire power of 9 red dice (up to 12 at range 1). With this in mind I think they’d be best suited to deploy together an essentially 'bully' a target into destruction before moving to the next target of opportunity.
Of course like every game I've had there comes the range 1 exchanges and the TIE Defender is most optimal at range with this build at range 3 to get the most out of the green dice. As such with access to the free evade token is there ever a reason you would not pick a 3+ manoeuvre in order to trigger the effect unless it is an obvious game finishing move?
In closing I'm very much looking forward to running this 'tanky' build thanks to the new TIE/x7 title card and will certainly post battle reports when they finally happen.
Stay tuned over the coming days as I'll add more squads that have been floating around in my head making full use of the TIE Defenders.
Thanks for reading.
