Wes has a very potent ability especially since the more wave releases are coming out. He takes the edge away from the infamous TIE/x7 title for example, and other builds who rely on stacking tokens to their advantage. Even if his attack doesn't yield the results you're after, you will still be able to take something away from the opponent, setting up an attack for the rest of the squad.
If you want to ensure you're shooting first and stripping tokens then Veteran Instincts is a sure way of doing this, taking him to a very hearty pilot skill 10. BB-8 is a welcome addition allowing for a cheeky barrel roll to stick to a target but R3-A2 also sticks some hurt to the opponent.
Integrated Astromech as per usual is in need of the X-Wing being a little squishy, but if you can find room for Biggs in the squad then it can prolong the life span of every other pilot.
